The right mattress can really help you have a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling rested and refreshed. Sleeping on the wrong mattress can cause sleeplessness, back pain, and overall aches and pains. For people with a back problem, a mattress that isn’t a good fit can make the pain worse.
When patients come to see me with back and neck pain they often ask what the best type of mattress for their pain……the truth is I’m not sure what the right answer is!
At the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) conference last October a company called Mammoth were exhibiting at the trade fair. I was interested to see what Mammoth had to offer, the CSP are endorsing Mammoth who produce mattresses using Medical Grade Foam™ Mammoth claim that in clinical trials and independent testing, their Medical Grade Foam™ has been proven to improve sleep, deliver superior postural support and offer greater pressure relief than standard memory foam and sprung mattress surfaces.
After chatting to the Mammoth sales guys about what advice I could give to patients, they suggested I added my details to their mailing list which entered me into a prize draw to win one of their mattresses. A couple of weeks later I heard that I had in fact won! Our nearest supplier is North Wales Beds in Llandudno, we went there to choose the model we preferred. A few weeks later and the very kind people at Mammoth delivered our king size performance pocket 2000. It’s really comfy! I haven’t had a memory foam mattress before, so I couldn’t tell you how this compares to other types. The theory of how Mammoth Medical Grade Foam is an improvement on traditional memory foam makes sense, if you are interested in reading it for yourself, their website can explain it all better than I could! It works for us.
When searching for the best mattress, it is important to remember that mattresses are largely a matter of personal preference. There is no single type of mattress or bed that works well for all people, and there is no best mattress for back problems. There are many causes of back pain, different conditions may respond better to specific types of beds, mattresses and sleep positions. There is a high degree of personal preference for mattresses, and what works well for one person may not work well for another.
Would I recommend a Mammoth mattress to patients? Yes, based on my experience I would. If you are interested in buying a Mammoth Mattress, Peak Physio and Fitness have a unique product code that gets you £50 off your purchase. Contact us to find out more.
